The Air Ambulance is an important part of the NHS's ambulance service. With 4 helicopters based at Langwathby near Penrith and Progress House near Eaglescliffe, the Great North Air Ambulance can reach anywhere within the 500 mile boundary a lot faster than a conventional ambulance. Many of the places are impassable to motor vehicles thus saving crucial time for patients.
